Tim Murton launches new exhibition as part of Monster Month in Elora

ELORA – Local artist Tim Murton will launch exhibit The Air Conditioned Nightmare on Oct. 10 and will be on display until  Nov. 17.

The opening reception will take place on Oct. 10 from 7 to 9pm in the Minarovich gallery at the Elora Centre for the Arts, in partnership with The Porch Light.

Murton’s The Air Conditioned Nightmare is a social commentary using satire and dark humour, often from a place of human disconnection and isolation, to shine a black light on the underbelly of the corporate world.

The Air Conditioned Nightmare is a dark and humorous look at the absurdities of modern day existence,” said Murton. “It’s not pretty, but hopefully thought-provoking.”

The exhibition will run during Monster Month and continue until Nov. 17. Admission is free.

Murton also created the Twilight Zoo in Elora as part of the annual Monster Month events in Elora and Fergus.

His “creatures” are still alive and well and are installed throughout downtown Elora for the month of October.

“We thought Monster Month was a great time to feature the darker work of Tim Murton in our main gallery,” said Lianne Carter, director at the Elora Centre for the Arts.

“There are many sides and shades to Tim Murton. We are also currently showcasing his luminous and introspective landscapes in the Harris gallery at the same time so that people can experience the diversity of his work.”
