Awakening – On the evening of Oct. 2, the Elora Green Space came alive with eerie ghouls and ghosts at Elora’s Monster Month official launch event: The Awakening. Tim Murton’s Twilight Zoo has overrun the streets of Elora for the month of October, with many of his creations making an appearance during the launch event (above right and below left/middle). Studio tour – The Elora Fergus Studio Tour was in full swing Oct. 3 and 4, with nearly 30 artists on the map. PHOTO 1: Elora artist Anna Green poses at her studio at 14 East Mill St. Green’s paintings seek to explore the connection between women and the natural world, balancing moments of quiet stillness with a sense of play and whimsy. Working in acrylic on canvas, she creates scenes where figures drift through water, light, and foliage. Inspired by Elora and the shores of Lake Huron, her work often includes birds, flowers and symbolic elements that suggest movement, curiosity and transformation. PHOTO 2: Grayce Perry’s contemporary collage paintings use inks on Japanese papers that are cut, torn or burned. In her recent series Gateways, Perry employed Japanese kintsugi techniques to mend the imperfections with gold inks while giving a nod to the philosophy of wabi sabi in life and in art. Here, she poses for a photo inside her home studio at 64 Colborne St. PHOTO 3: Stephen Haigh incorporates marquetry (an ancient art and craft of applying small pieces of thin wood veneer, shell, bone or metal to a base structure to create decorative patterns, pictures or designs) with his own contemporary flare. Here he poses for a photo in his studio at 18 Colborne St. Photos by Ellouise Thompson

Art – Erin artist Karen Brown will be showcasing her work at the Alton Mill Arts Centre on Oct. 17 from 2 to 5pm. Brown works in encaustic, a beeswax based paint and the title of her showcase is The Power of Grey. For Brown, grey is more than a colour associated with dullness or uncertainty. It can suggest the wisdom that comes with age, the confidence to live with change and the beauty of something still becoming, officials say. The exhibition will take place across three gallery spaces. Listening begins in the Headwaters Gallery, Softening continues in the Falls Gallery, and Integrating concludes in Gallery 104. Visitors are welcome to explore the spaces at their own pace. PHOTO 1: A piece titled Upon this Bank. PHOTO 2: A piece titled Look With Thine Ears. PHOTO 3: Artist Karen Brown in her studio.
