In memoriam – Team Addy and Sick Kids partnered to host the fourth annual Addytude concert on Sept. 19 at the Elora Centre for the Arts, in honour of Addison Hill, who died of cancer in 2022, just two days after her 14th birthday. By the pond – Over Here Community Arts Adventure and the Erin Tree Trust hosted the third annual Arts By The Pond at the Hillsburgh Library on Sep. 19. Funding – Representatives of the Township of Guelph/Eramosa met with Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Joseph Racinsky to celebrate a $200,000 capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation that supported the township’s new pickleball court project. “Pickleball is a massively growing sport across the province. I am very pleased to see this generous contribution to recreation in our community that will help people of all ages stay active,” said Racinsky. “Thank you to the [township] for their leadership and effort in applying for this grant.” Guelph/Eramosa Mayor Chris White said, “The addition of pickleball courts at Rockmosa Park reflects the township’s commitment to expanding recreation opportunities and enhancing community amenities.” He added, “We are grateful for the support of the Ontario government and the Ontario Trillium Foundation in helping us deliver a project that will serve our growing community.” Photo by Ellouise Thompson

Tennis – Every fall members of the Rockwood Tennis Club play in the annual RTC Championships, a tradition started in 1979. This year the club hosted events for juniors, legends (65+), adult men’s/women’s singles, adult mixed-doubles and adult men’s/women’s doubles. Organizers say well over 100 players participated over the course of two weeks. The fortnight of tennis culminated with Super Saturday: a day of semifinals and finals and a celebration of tennis.TOP PHOTO 1: Men’s Doubles winners Carl Rudat and Randy Malcom. Collectable – Sellers, collectors and curious onlookers gathered at the Fergus Legion on Sept. 20 for the Centre Wellington Collectibles Convention. For Terry – The Erin Optimists hosted the annual Erin Terry Fox Run at Centre 2000 on Sep. 20 which raised over $15,000 to help reach Terry’s goal to cure cancer. Terry Fox Run – Despite ongoing construction changing this year’s route, many still showed to the Palmerston Terry Fox Run on Sept. 20, raising a total of $6,545 online as of press time. Participants ran, walked and biked counter-clockwise around town. Lunch after the run/walk/bike was provided by the Palmerston Lions, courtesy of local businesses who sponsored. Truth and Reconciliation – The Town of Minto raised the Survivors’ Flag outside the municipal office on Sept. 1 in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The flag will remain on display throughout September. Submitted photo

School addition – The Minto Chamber of Commerce joined owner and principal Carly Ogryzlo, staff educators and families for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at The Owl’s Nest Holistic Alternative School in Harriston on Sept. 3, celebrating the opening of the school’s newest building addition. The new structure expands indoor and sheltered learning spaces. Interior design ads – Lawn signs appearing around Minto and the surrounding area asking “Is this your rich husband?” are part of a relaunch campaign for Stonehaven, a Harriston-based interior design business. Stonehaven is owned by Brittany Weber, a local designer and mom of five. Weber is offering a new virtual service called design therapy. She told the Community News “the signs were intentionally mysterious, with only the question and a QR code leading people to the reveal.” The QR code leads to Stonehaven’s new design therapy service, which gives people the opportunity to meet virtually with an interior designer for focused help with their own homes.
