Steampunk – The Cogs and Clockwork festival, held on Sept. 13 on St. Andrew Street in Fergus, pays homage to steampunk, a sub-genre of sci-fi and fantasy that draws inspiration from the Victorian era. Parkinson’s – A Walk for Parkinson’s took place at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex on Sept. 12, attracting around 100 participants who helped to fundraise for Parkinson’s research. Classics – The Belwood Lake Car Club hosted its annual car show at the Belwood baseball diamond on Sept. 13 from noon to 4pm. The event featured dozens of cars, trucks and a few motorcycles. Admission was by donation with all proceeds going towards the Centre Wellington Food Bank. Non-perishable food items were also accepted. Fall fair – Folks from across Wellington North came out from Sept. 11 to 13 to celebrate their community at the Arthur Fall Fair, showcasing the area’s enduring agricultural roots. Fair – The 184th Aberfoyle Fall Fair took place on the grounds of the Puslinch Community Centre on Sept. 11 and 12. PHOTO 1: Norman Anderson demonstrated how to shave hickory sticks to make hammer handles. PHOTO 2: Ada O’Donovan took the opportunity to meet Hawkeye and his handler Sue Alexander after their skills and tricks demo with Dogs in the Park. PHOTO 3: Jackson Fletcher, 6, and Addison Fletcher, 2, had fun with bubbles at the fair. PHOTO 4: Graeme Sheffield of the Ironwood Anvil demonstrated his trade. PHOTO 5: This year’s theme was “It’s Harvest Time,” and many locals submitted goods they harvested. Lawn bowling – The Elora Lawn Bowling Club held its men’s and women’s tournaments on Sept. 2. PHOTO 1: Heritage River Retirement Home was the sponsor of the women’s tournament and the winners were Ann Flanagan and Kathy Greener from Heritage Lawn Bowling Club in Kitchener. Season finale – A warm, sunny evening provided the perfect conditions for a strong turnout at the final Mapleton Farmers Market of the year, held on Labour Day Monday (Sept. 7) at the municipal parking lot. The seasonal wrap-up featured a partnership with the Drayton Rotary Club’s car show and barbeque. Attendees enjoyed live musical entertainment from Ivy Chung, alongside activities like market bingo and special giveaways. PHOTO 1: Who says tractors have no place at a car show?
