Drinking and driving? – A 20-year-old Brampton man was charged with failing or refusing to provide a breath sample and driving without insurance after this vehicle crashed into a hydro pole on the 9th Line in Erin on July 26 at about 8pm. Submitted photo

Free music – Folk singer Drea Lake performed a short concert at the Elora Greenspace on July 24, attracting a small crowd of interested spectators. Performance – Elora Community Theatre, directed by Deb Stanson, staged its final performance of Romeo and Juliet at the Elora Centre for the Arts on July 26. A lightning storm drew the performance to a hasty end, but did little to dull the crowd’s appreciation of the production’s costumes. PHOTO 1: Juliet and her mother have a few words. Lavendar lane – Hereward Farms held a “Breakfast and Blooms” open house on July 25 where attendees wandered lavender fields, participated in a lavender wreath workshop and purchased items made from the fragrant plant. Reopening – The closure at the Erin bridge on Wellington Road 52 has been lifted however lane reductions are now in place for remaining work to be completed over the next five weeks. Traffic can travel in both directions. A pedestrian bridge will remain accessible at all times, according to Wellington County. Surface asphalt placement and driveway fixes are expected to be completed this fall. Submitted photo

Palmerston pulls – The 45th annual Palmerston Tractor Pull was held at the fairgrounds on July 25. The event featured divisions for tractors weighing 5,500 pounds, up to 46,000 pounds, plus two classes for trucks. It serves as a qualifying event for the King of the Pull competition. Birthday bash – A large crowd came to the 65th birthday open house for Bev Marcelline on July 18. Marcelline has been a crossing guard for Drayton Heights Public School for years and many parents and children attended the event to celebrate her, including Tamara Burt and Pacey. Submitted photo

Donation – The Harriston Legion Catch the Ace Comittee presented a $1,500 cheque to the Harriston Food Bank on July 7. The funds will be used to purchase a new freezer. Ambassadors – The Drayton/Mapleton Agricultural Society is hosting its third annual Junior Ambassador Competition on Aug. 4 at the Drayton Ag Hall (49 Elm St.) at 7pm. Bible camp – July 20 to 24 was a week interactive learning at the Rainforest Falls Vacation Bible School at Whites Road Pentecostal Church in Harriston. There was singing, story telling and a craft station after the Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5 children learned about creatures in the rain forest and scriptures from the Psalms. During the week the children brought in $466 for the Harriston Food Bank. There were three teams competing to have the most donations and the red team was successful.
