Celebration – The Fergus Legion hosted a “commnity street party” on July 17 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion. Musical entertainment – PHOTO 1: The No-Name Band performed a rendition of Happy Birthday to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion at an event at the Elora branch on July 17. Storm’s brewing – The LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society farm near Hillsburgh hosted an open house on July 18, for visitors of all ages to meet the horses, including a handful of famous retired racehorses, and inquire about adopting retired thoroughbreds. The 2017 Canadian Horse of the Year and Hall of Fame member Pink Lloyd, newly inducted Hall of Fame member Rahy’s Attorney and millionaire racehorse Something Extra, who recorded more than $1 million in career earnings, are among the famous horses. Rodeo – The Ram Rodeo Tour made its annual stop in Erin July 17 to 19 at the Erin fairgrounds. From bucking broncs to brazen bulls, the rodeo had a little something for everyone. Guests were treated to both youth and adult barrel racing, pole bending, bronc riding and bull riding, as well as special performances from the Canadian Cowgirls. Rain or shine – Not to be deterred by storm warnings, festival-goers made it out to the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex for the Fergus Cheesecake and Taco Fest on July 18. Fireworks – Mount Forest was the centre of a lot of fun last weekend during the annual fireworks festival July 16 to 19.
