Legion – As part of the celebration commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 275 Fergus sponsored a program in the community schools to recognize a student for their skills in leadership and having a positive influence on their peers and school community. Teachers were given the task of identifying a student in their school who best fit the criteria. Students selected were invited to attend the Legion to be presented with a certificate and monetary award. Make haste – PHOTO 1: The Probus Club of Centre Wellington went back in time with a trip to the Medieval Times in Toronto on July 9. Poker run – The Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides hosted a scenic motorcycle Ride for Dog Guides, featuring three poker run stops along the route, that takes riders from the Dog Guides Oakville facility to the Puppy Nursery in Breslau and includes a BBQ lunch and stops along the way. The Belwood and District Lions Club hosted one of those stops at the pavilion on Queen Street in Belwood on the June 20 poker run. Ambassadors – Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Joseph Racinsky hosted a barbecue on July 11 at Rockmosa Park in Rockwood. Activities available for children included a bouncy castle and face painting. Carnival – Clifford’s Carnival Celebration on July 11 drew crowds and many happy faces to the streets of downtow. Catch the Ace – The Harriston Legion has been continuing to roll out the proceeds generated from its latest Catch the Ace draw. Truck show – The 16th annual Clifford Truck Show was held on July 3 and 4 at the Clifford Rotary pavilion. The Great Lakes Truck Club rganizes the show, and are based in Fergus with more than 3,000 members across Canada and the United States. “Our event is a classic and antique big rig show – not a pickup truck show – and has grown into one of the largest antique and classic big rig shows in Canada,” said Chris Hall of the organization. Poised for success – Graduating students at Wellington Heights Secondary School in Mount Forest were celebrated at the school’s annual Commencement ceremony on June 19 in the school gymnasium. Approximately 800 people were in attendance to recognize this milestone, and to witness more than $41,000 in bursaries and scholarships awarded to graduating students thanks to the generous donations from countless community businesses, organizations and individual donors.
