Celebrate food – Mapleton’s Farmer’s Market celebrated Food Day Canada on Aug. 3, drawing a massive turnout to the Drayton Municipal Parking Lot. The monthly event, which showcases local food and crafts, expanded its vendor lineup to honour the nationwide food celebration. Perfect summer weather fueled the high attendance, as well a large number of classic cars that filled the parking lot and beyond. Hosted by the Drayton Rotary Club, the car show was a hit with the crowd. In addition to the impressive vehicle display, the event featured a charity fundraising BBQ, live music by 15-year-old local artist Ivy Chung, and an interactive game of Market Bingo. Anniversary – Dobson’s in Palmerston celebrated 50 years of business on Aug. 5. Giving back to their community, the business donated a total of $50,000 to local organizations for the 50-year milestone. Other donations included $12,000 to the Palmerston and District Hospital Foundation, $2,000 to the Palmerston Food Bank, $5,000 toward new ball diamond dugouts and $2,500 to the 2027 U20 National Broomball Championships. Cars galore – The Erin Legion hosted its 15th annual car show on Aug. 8 from 10am to 4pm. The event included prizes, a BBQ, music and lots of classic chrome. Despite hot temperatures and the constant threat of rain, the event was well attended by both car enthusiasts and curious spectators. Street party – Harriston Rising held a street party for the whole community downtown on Aug. 8, with a car show, games, live music, a foam party, food, face painting and the Minto Makers’ Market.
