One person was sent to hospital and tenants from four units were displaced following an apartment fire on Henderson Street here on Saturday night.

Centre Wellington Fire and Rescue received the call on Sept. 8 around 6:30pm.

About 26 firefighters, from both Fergus and Elora,  responded to the call.

When fire crews arrived they found smoke coming from a window of an apartment on the second floor.

“Crews entered the unit and encountered heavy smoke with limited visibility,” deputy chief Jonathan Karn stated in an email to the Advertiser.

“Interior crews located the tenant and removed him from the unit.”

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one unit,  which received fire damage in the kitchen and extensive smoke damage throughout.

Emergency crews remained on the scene for about two hours.

Tenants from four units were displaced and the building was released to the owner, noted Karn.
