Temporary extension of liquor licence for Grand River Raceway events

Councillors here had no issue allowing temporary liquor licence extensions to the Grand River Raceway for two special summer events.

On June 20, councillors approved extending the proposed licenced areas for Industry Day on Aug. 1 and the Truck and Tractor Pull on Aug. 26 and 27.

Council’s letter of approval is part of the raceway’s application process to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

Though listed as a delegation for the June 27 meeting, Paul Walker, president of the Grand River Agricultural Society clarified that he was only there to answer council questions.

A letter from Kelly Spencer, the raceway’s marketing and community manager, stated “(Industry Day) draws 5,000 visitors from across the province.”

She explained the extenwould allow two beer tents to be open and operational during the hours of the event.

The application for the truck and tractor pull would allow for a 100’ by 100’ licenced space near the track to operate  during the hours of the event.

Council had no issue to the proposed extension to the liquor areas for the events.
