Ted Laws named Puslinch Senior of the Year

Edward E. (Ted) Laws is the latest inductee as Puslinch Senior of the Year.

During the award presentation on June 19, Mayor Dennis Lever asked Laws to come forward to receive the certificate.

“I see there is quite a crowd here tonight,” said Lever, alluding to the numerous members of Laws’ family that filled the chamber gallery.

Lever noted that June is Seniors Month and each year, the township recognizes the contributions of a senior within the community.

Laws quipped “I didn’t realize I was over 65.”

“… Maybe just over,” Lever commented. “Some years ago I switched to metric … it makes you feel a lot younger.”

Lever said, “Ted has been a member of the Mini Lakes community for the past 30 years, and a year-round resident for the past nine years.”

He added, “Ted’s life has consistently been about giving back to the community in some form or another, either through his service to his country as a veteran of the Canadian Navy, through his charitable works with the Masons and Sea Cadets organizations, through his chairing of the Safety Committee and championing outreach activities in the Mini Lakes community, as well as for many years now his active involvement with the COPS committee for the Township of Puslinch.”

Lever continued, “Ted is a passionate supporter of the local Women in Crisis and Guelph Food Bank and he is always proud to host the Women in Crisis event each year.”

He noted Laws brought the Vial of Life concept to the Mini Lakes community in 1999 and personally lobbied to make it available to every resident in that community.

In more recent years, Laws promoted the concept to the Puslinch COPS committee.

“Puslinch is extremely fortunate to have this extraordinary man as a resident; his tireless energy, unwavering commitment and incredible determination provide an example to us all.”

Lever concluded, “Ted, on behalf of the township, thank you and congratulations.”
