Team comes together to raise over $3,700

ELORA – It was a time to come together as old friends and the community raised more than $3,700 in support of those struggling with mental health concerns.

Johnny Canning grew up in Elora and recently returned to the area after finishing a teaching contract in China.

Canning and some friends decided to form a group to recognize friends that have passed away and to show support for those struggling with mental health issues.

“The Coming Together Team,” formed through social media, held a fundraiser on Nov. 9 at the Elora Legion.

Organizers are grateful to sponsors who donated prizes for raffle draws, restaurants who provided food for guests, the Elora Legion for its assistance and support and also to the bands and DJs who donated their time.

“The support that was shown for this event is what we have known since we first started on our grief journey,” stated Myrna Hutchison, chairperson of Get In Touch For Hutch, the charity beneficiary.

“The community of Centre Wellington has shown time and time again that they want to make a difference for those struggling with mental health concerns. There is a whole community willing to come together to show you that you matter and that you are #NeverAlone. Thank you to all who contributed in some way to make this event a success.”

Officials say they will soon share more information about what they plan to do with event proceeds.
