Tap dancers shine at world championships

RIESA, GERMANY – Three local dancers were part of the Canadian team that competed in the World Tap Championships in November, coming home with a silver medal.

Abby Hergott, 20, and her brother Tyler, 16, both of Drayton, along with Hailey Crawford, 15, of Cambridge, were on the tap team that won silver with a production number called The Speakeasy.

Switzerland won gold, while the German team took the bronze.

The Canadian performance included members from three teams: children 12 and under, juniors 13 to 15 and adults 16 to 31.

Abby and Tyler also competed with the adult team, performing a formation number called Circus, which won a bronze medal. The Czech Republic took both the gold and the silver.

Hailey also competed with the junior team, and its formation number Bollywood Bride made it to the top six in the semi-finals.

The competition was hosted by the International Dance Organization (IDO), which has more than 60 member nations.

Tyler and Hailey dance at Stage Presence School of Dance in Fergus, while Abby teaches tap and hip hop at the Grand River Dance Academy in Fergus.
