Taking to the road to support Wellington Guelph Drug Strategy

This Saturday, residents will be running downtown to support a good cause – in fact several good causes.

And the team from Wellington Guelph Drug Strategy will be there.

The annual Meridian Downtown 5K run takes place downtown on Sept. 24 with online registrations at www.onlineregistrations.ca/guelphdowntown5k.

Registration forms are available at The Running Works or online at www.guelphchc.ca.

Proceeds from will support the following programs and services;

– Wellington Guelph Drug Strategy committee: works to reduce the impact of substance misuse on the lives of the residents of Guelph and Wellington County.  Funds raised will be used to support evidence-based drug prevention programming in our community.

– Garden Fresh box program: helps people get fresh, affordable produce and supports local farmers.

– Guelph Wellington Local Food Initiative: promotes local food to preserve and enhance sustainable agricultural diversity in the region.  Funds from the run will support the annual Local Food Fest.

– Ontario Early Years Centre (OEYC): offers programs that promote learning through play and support families and caregivers as they develop coping skills, literacy skills and strong family relationships. Proceeds support children’s programming at the Ontario Early Years Centre.

This year, Wellington Guelph Drug Strategy is entering a team to support the event.

The intent is to working with the community to provide access to health programs and services and create opportunities for people to improve their well-being.
