MINTO – A $142,000 contract for supply and installation of equipment for a commercial kitchen at the Palmerston and District Community has been approved by town council.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – The combined Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) allocation for Wellington County municipalities will rise by just over $30,000 next year.

HARRISTON - Harriston is a long way from the refugee camps of Turkey, crammed with displaced Syrians, and farther away still from Aleppo’s embattled streets. But for Obid Almohamed and his family, the small community of Harriston, with less than 2,000 inhabitants, is now home.

MINTO – A chicken barn was destroyed, but no animals were lost and no one was injured in a fire at a property on Wellington Road 6 on Oct. 22. Firefighters from Minto, Mapleton and Wellington North responded and were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other buildings.

MAPLETON – A colorful new mural will soon decorate a section of Drayton’s downtown.

MINTO – Minto council granted a variance to the town’s zoning bylaw on Sept. 6, permitting a 13,000-square-foot pig barn on the 12th Line.

MINTO – A three-year contract for cleaning services in Minto, valued at $68,400 was awarded to Mississauga-based Green Maples Environmental by council at a Sept. 6 meeting.

MINTO - The Town of Minto and local downtown revitalization committees are planning Newcomers’ Welcome Receptions in all three urban communities (Clifford, Palmerston, Harriston). 

HARRISTON - Over a month after a provincial deadline to install air conditioning in every resident room, Caressant Care's Harriston location remains non-compliant. A spokesperson blamed a scheduling conflict and supply chain challenges for the delay.

WELLINGTON NORTH – Eighty cattle were lost and a large dairy barn destroyed in a fire here on July 31. Firefighters were called around 2:05am and the barn was “fully engulfed” when they arrived.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – A June 29 OPP press release provides additional details about the investigation of an armed bank robbery in Harriston on June 22.

MINTO – Officials here are concerned some provincial efforts aimed at improving housing affordability are doing more to create red tape than to correct the problem. A report presented to town council by Triton Engineering senior planner Bill White at the June 21 meeting outlines numerous concerns.

MAPLETON – Councillors here heard local health care recruitment challenges have reached “crisis” level. Mapleton council approved a $10,000 contribution to assist with the work of the local health care professional recruitment committee on June 14.

MINTO – Perth-Wellington candidates for the June 2 provincial election fielded questions on topics ranging from climate change and housing to a local worker shortage during a gathering at Pike Lake Golf Centre on May 24.
