Sword swiped

On Aug. 16 at approximately 2pm Wellington County OPP officers received a call regarding a theft of a decorative Scottish sword from an unlocked vehicle that was parked in a driveway on St. Patrick Street east in Fergus.  

The theft occurred sometime between 6:30pm on Aug. 11 and 10am on Aug. 13. The sword belongs to the Fergus Scottish Festival and is described as having a three-foot metal blade – unsharpened and chrome-plated with a sheath.

Police are reminding vehicle owners that thefts from vehicles are a crime of opportunity An unlocked vehicle door or an open window is an invitation to thieves. Remembering to always roll up the windows, lock the doors and keep valuables out of plain view, could prevent theft from occurring.

Police also ask anyone who sees something, to say something. If people see suspicious persons or activity near their vehicle or property, they can call the Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
