Suspicious fire being investigated in Erin

The OPP is investigating after a straw bale fire in Erin was deemed suspicious.

On Feb. 15 at 4:16am fire crews from the Erin and Halton Hills Fire Departments responded to a large stack of straw bales engulfed in flames in a field near the intersection of the Third Line of Erin and the Erin/Halton Townline.

A witness in the area observed the fire and called the fire department.

Wellington County OPP along with West Region OPP Criminal Support Unit and Forensics Identification Services Unit are investigating the fire. Investigators from the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall Emergency Management were notified.

Anyone who witnessed the fire or has information can contact the Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Tip providers may be eligible for a reward from Crime Stoppers of up to $2,000.
