The annual food drive, sponsored by the Erin Station 10 Fire Fighters, is underway following a successful food drive following the Santa Claus parade on Nov. 23.
While the weather a little challenging, the community support matched the weather as it was a blizzard of giving and support. The food drive collected an amazing 571 pounds of food and raised $1,036 to help support the food bank program.
“WWe have an amazing community – this is a fantastic start to the food drive for Station 10. It is such a huge food drive for us – we can’t thank Charles, Laurence and those at Station 10 enough for their work in coordinating this each year in support of our food bank program,” said Erika Westcott, Manager Community and Volunteer Services.
On Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, fire fighters hosted a barbecue and food drive at Marc’s Valu-Mart. You can purchase a bag of needed items for the food bank from Marc’s Valu-Mart to donate to the drive or make a cash donation.
“With the need continuing to increase in the community, food drives like this are especially important. I can’t imagine how EWCS could support so many without food drives and the donations we receive. It is just such an important program for so many in our community who rely on the food bank to have enough to eat,” said Alyssa Cunningham, Care Coordinator for East Wellington Community Services.
The Station 10 Fire Fighters food drive will be ongoing until the end of December, with donations being collected at Valu-Mart, the Erin office of EWCS at 45 Main Street and participating businesses.
From Nov. 18 to Nov. 24, Erin Tim Hortons restaurant hosted its annual community food drive to help replenish the shelves at East Wellington Community Services.
Through their food drive, Tim Horton’s in Erin collected over 300 pounds of food – an amazing total of much needed food items.
“At Tim Hortons, we believe that it is important to give back to the communities where we live, work and play,” said restaurant owners, Andrew and Lori Paterson.
