MAPLETON – Area seniors will be receiving a package of Christmas cheer courtesy of the local Seniors Centre for Excellence (SCE).

Since 2017 the centre has been teaming up with the Victorian Order of Nurses Waterloo Wellington Dufferin – Mount Forest office (VONWWD) to provide stockings containing items such as socks, treats, pocket calendars and personalized items, for seniors across north and central Wellington County who find themselves alone at Christmas.

“We’ve raised about $3,500, for seniors who are living alone, isolated in the community and we’ll be delivering Christmas stockings to them,” SCE coordinator Helen Edwards told Minto town council during an update on SCE activities at the Dec. 6 meeting.

Through the program community members make donations for seniors who are isolated, perhaps due to illness or loss of a spouse.

Donations accepted

The donations are distributed to seniors identified as potential beneficiaries of the program with the assistance of VON.

To donate to the program or for more information, contact the SCE at 519-638-1000.
