St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church here is celebrating 25 years of working with the Children of Haiti in and around the northern Haitian city of Cap Haitien.

St. Andrew’s now supports four primary schools with upwards of 800 children from junior kindergarten through Grade 6, as well children in the orphanage.

Funding comes from a variety of sources - individual donors within and outside of the congregation, along with various fundraising activities such as the annual 5km run/walk held the first Saturday following Thanksgiving.

Oct. 18 will mark the 12th year the event has taken place. It begins and ends at St. Andrew’s and is a timed event for those who are running. Registration begins at 8am and the race is at 9:30am.

Registration forms and sponsor sheets are available in advance at the church office by calling 519-843-3565. Since inception, the event has raised more than $110,000 and every cent goes to Haiti to help in the education, feeding and care of the children.

The people of Centre Wellington and beyond are encouraged to support the run/walk. Without help the majority of the Haitian children are without hope, organizers state.
