Speedvale reconstruction approved

The cost to rebuild a stretch of Speedvale Avenue into Guelph-Eramosa has dropped significantly from the initial  estimate.

Guelph-Eramosa council was told at its June 16 meeting the cost for reconstruction of a 900-metre portion of Speedvale is $620,935. The contract was awarded to Steed and Evans, which had the lowest of three tenders received for the project.

“The scope of the project is reconstruction of approximately 900 metres of road between (Wellington Road 32) and Guelph city limits,” township director of public works Saidur Rahman said in a report to council.

“The major project deliverables are removal of asphalt, earth excavation, grading, sub-base and base reconstruction and hot mix asphalting.”

The project came in under what the township had budgeted.

The work is expected to start in mid-July and last up to eight weeks.
