Speed limit changes not for county roads
There seems to be some confusion among Puslinch residents about which roads exactly the township is considering for lower speed limits - possibly 60 or 70km/hour.
Councillor Dick Visser said last week a concerned resident stopped him to ask about the proposal to lower the speed limit on all township-owned roads, which originated with a request from the township’s community oriented policing committee.
Visser said the resident was under the false impression that every single road in the township’s boundaries would be subject to the speed change. However, he said any such change would not apply to county roads in the township.
Other councillors agreed the issue needs clarification and at least one hinted the misconception may have originated with an Aug. 13 story in the Advertiser.
However, nowhere in that article is it stated or implied the speed limit changes would apply to county-owned roads.
At last check, Puslinch Roads Superintendent Jim Howlett, who called the idea of a unilateral speed limit change “ridiculous,” was trying to obtain information from a traffic expert.
