Solid waste services committee to take a tour of auto recycler business in Erin

The solid waste services committee has recommended taking a tour of an Erin business after receiving an email from Erin Mayor Lou Maieron.

He wrote that he has talked with Rob Smith, of Erin Auto Recyclers, and learned county officials could see some of the latest techniques and what is lacking in service levels in Erin.

“For example, he told that in the past month and a half he has filled 20 skids with electronics from the community.

“Each skid weighs 500 to 600 pounds and that is without even actually advertising it to the community. In comparison, the county provides a one day a year pick-up for the community. By the way, Rob does not charge any fees for dropping off electronics.”

Maieron suggested, “We could do a site visit before lunch and discuss the matter in the warmth of David’s restaurant.

“After lunch at David’s, if there is any interest, we could come before [solid waste services] as a delegation for a presentation.”

McKay told Maieron at county council, “We will go and do a site visit.”

But, he added, “No promises. We’ll just go an see what he is doing.”
