Society lauds gift certificate program

HARRISTON – For the last nine years the Harriston and District Horticultural Society has participated in the Minto Chamber of Commerce’s “Think Minto First” Fundraising program.

Through this endeavour  society members and other  members  of the  community purchase gift cards for local businesses and those businesses pay the sellers a percentage of the sales.

“This is a win/win situation for both our local participating businesses and our horticultural society.  This year it will allow us to  purchase another colourful bench for the Mill Street Park in memory of some members who have passed away,” society officials state.

In a May 17 press release the society thanked the chamber, particularly LaunchIt Minto business development coordinator Somer Antonopoulos, who facilitates the program and “is always finding new businesses to participate,” as well the businesses themselves,  and “our Minto community who support us.”

As well, the horticultural society is again running its “Garden of the Month” program for  the summer.

“We hope that local residents will continue to nominate those outstanding gardens in Harriston, Palmerston and Minto Township, so that their efforts can be recognized. We also want to hear about wonderful backyard vegetable gardens,” the release states.
