ACTON – The first night of the Acton Fall Fair ended with a 54-year-old man being rushed to hospital after an interaction with police.

At about 11:20pm on Sept. 20, in the fair parking lot near the Dufferin Rural Heritage Community Centre on Park Avenue, a police officer attempted to arrest the man for a reported assault, according to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

“There was an interaction, and the man became unresponsive,” the SIU states.

The man was initially taken to Georgetown hospital, and was later transported to a Missisauga hospital, where SIU officials say he is in critical condition.

The SIU has designated one subject official and three witness officials. A subject official is a police officer whose conduct the SIU director opines appears to have caused the incident under investigation.

SIU officials believe witnesses may have recorded the incident with cellphones, and are asking these individuals to come forward.

Anyone who may have information about the incident is asked to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php.
