SIU investigating single-vehicle crash overnight in Centre Wellington

Driver seriously injured in crash after trying to evade police in at least two jurisdictions

CENTRE WELLINGTON – The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the circumstances surrounding a single-vehicle crash that left a man with serious injuries.

According to an SIU press release, officers with Halton Regional Police Service tried to stop a clack Chrysler 300 shortly after midnight on March 22.

The SIU says the vehicle “committed traffic infractions in another jurisdiction,” but the release did not identify where the alleged driving violation took place.

SIU officials did not immediately reply to an Advertiser request for that information.

Halton officers were “unsuccessful” in their attempt to pull the vehicle over so they “disengaged,” according to the SIU.

“When the vehicle entered into Wellington County, [OPP] officers attempted to stop the vehicle,” the release states.

“At approximately 1:45am, in the area of Wellington Road 18 and 4th Line, the vehicle left the roadway and entered into a ditch.”

Local firefighters were paged to the scene at 1:53am.

SIU officials say the driver, a 43-year-old man, was transported to hospital with “a serious injury.”

Three SIU investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.
