MINTO – Site plans for a new OPP station at Teviotdale have been approved by council here.

At the Oct. 9 meeting Minto CAO Bill White advised council the town’s public works, building department and fire department staff have reviewed the site plans and recommended council approve the site plans unconditionally, “on the basis that this is a county project.”

While a building permit will be required, White said staff did not recommend a site plan agreement “as county design standards are high.

“It meets zoning that’s in place, there’s sufficient parking and landscaping. The building is going to look great from the road. We think this is going to be an asset for many years to come,” said White.

Plans include a one-story, 18,000 square foot police station, surrounded by more than 100 parking spaces and extensive landscaping.

“The town actively pursued this building in Minto. It represents an opportunity to enhance the Teviotdale area and provide needed services for the community,” White noted.

A portion of the proceeds from the $181,000 sale of municipal land for the new facility, formerly a soccer and ball field, have been dedicated to reconstruction of the Clifford soccer field, with the balance designated for recreation reserves.
