Silver Medal Finish for the Palmerston Marlins

The Palmerston Marlins Girls Fastpitch Organization hosted the 11th Annual Triple Crown Tournament on July 4th-6th. The Novice ’94 team played teams from Brampton and Cambridge as well as their sister team the Palmerston ‘95’s. Skill and good Sportsmanship lead the team to a 5-1 win over Brampton, 2-2 tie with Cambridge, 15-0 win over Palmerston ‘95’s in round robin play.

In the semi-finals Cambridge caused a nail-biter when they scored six runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to tie up the game 7-7. With no time left on the clock, both teams were forced into an international tiebreaker inning. Palmerston ‘94’s scored 5 runs during their at bat and shut Cambridge out to win the game 12-7 and earn the right to play in the Gold Medal Championship.

The Palmerston ‘94’s faced Brampton in the championship game. A tight defensive game and superb pitching on both teams lead to a 2-1 loss for Palmerston giving us the silver medal. The players, coaches and families are proud of the team’s accomplishments.

MVP awards were given at the end of each game as chosen by the opposing teams. Our recipients were Shae-Lynn Reaman (pitching), Danielle Eaton (scored tie run with Cambridge), Katie Grubb (fielding), Sam Fisk (fielding) and Lexi Bell (base running). Although these players received special mention, all our players performed very well resulting in the silver medal finish.
