CENTRE WELLINGTON – To alleviate parking problems in downtown Elora and Fergus, council here recently made a few changes in conjunction with the Elora and Fergus BIAs.
Shuttle bus
Every weekend this summer, a shuttle bus will be available on Saturdays and Sundays to transport visitors and residents to the historic downtowns.
A shuttle will encourage visitors to park beyond the downtown cores, and be transported, free of charge, to specific areas of the township.
The shuttle commenced on June 4 and runs from 11am to 5pm. On long weekends, the shuttle will operate on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, except for the Canada Day long weekend, where it will run on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The shuttle will operate out of the Grand River Raceway, located at 7445 Wellington County Rd 21.
Every hour the shuttle will transport passengers to the following stops:
– Downtown Elora;
– Victoria Park, Elora;
– Bissell Park, Elora;
-Wellington County Museum, Aboyne; and
– Downtown Fergus.

Elora street closures
Township staff and the Elora BIA have identified four weekends to close downtown Elora streets and encourage a pedestrian friendly downtown hub.
The weekends are:
– June 18 and 19;
– July 1, 2 and 3;
– July 30, 31 and Aug. 1; and
– Sept. 3, 4 and 5
The weekend closures will affect West Mill Street from Metcalfe Street to Price Street, and Metcalfe Street from West Mill Street to Geddes Street.
Fergus street closures
In Fergus, a portion of Provost Lane is officially closed seven days a week for the summer season, allowing patrons to enjoy an outdoor dining experience. No other streets will be closed to accommodate visitors.
“Centre Wellington council and staff have worked hard to find solutions that support tourism and address downtown parking challenges,” said Mayor Kelly Linton in a press release, adding the pilot program would be paid for through the county’s Business Retention and Expansion fund.
