Sensational Elora's Pumpkin Day a festive food bank fundraiser
Kids young and old seemed to have a wonderful time carving pumpkins at Sensational Elora’s Pumpkin Day on Oct. 11.
Bissell Park was the venue for the day, as 18 of the orange gourds were carved during the day and prizes were given in six categories.
The categories and winners are as follows: biggest pumpkin: Finn Baikie, smallest: Brandon LaLarre, best carved: Kayleb Halls, best decorated: James Baikie, most unique shape: Emily McElwain, and most unique colour: Brandon Muoder.
Music was supplied by the Hazy Maidens and Mapleton’s Organic provided pumpkin flavoured ice cream for a donation to the food bank.
In fact, everything was free at the event in exchange for a donation to the food bank which, along with the breakfast program at the Centre Wellington District High School, is the recipient of the work done by Sensational Elora.
For another year professional pumpkin carver Kevin Bender showed off his talents and two face painters were a draw with children.
Event chair Patricia Brown and chair of Sensational Elora Kirk McElwain said they were quite pleased with the donations to the two charities, as well as with the number of people attending the event.
They said next year’s Pumpkin Day will be even bigger.
