Search underway for ‘swimmer in distress’ at Guelph Lake

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – Emergency crews are searching for a swimmer who was reported in distress at Guelph Lake Conservation Area late Sunday afternoon.

Wellington County OPP officials say the call came in at about 5pm on July 17.

OPP officers, joined by Guelph and Grand Valley firefighters, OPP Aviation Services and the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, are searching for the person, who was reported in distress off the main beach at the conservation area.

“The main beach at the Guelph Lake Conservation Area will be closed until further notice, and the public is being asked to avoid the area,” police stated in a press release issued at 7:45pm on Sunday.
