School boards propose 2026-27 school year calendar

GUELPH – The Wellington Catholic and Upper Grand District school boards (UGDSB and WCDSB) have put together proposed calenders for the 2026-27 school year.

UGDSB spokesperson Megan Sicoli told the Advertiser the two boards “make every effort to align our dates.”

The first day of school for all students is Sept. 8. Schools are set to be closed for winter holidays from Dec. 21 to Jan. 1, and for March break from March 15 to 19.

Professional development (PD) days (also known as professional activity or PA days) for all schools are set for Sept. 2 and 3, Nov. 27 and June 30.

The WCDSB also has full-board PD days set for Jan. 30 and April 24. PD days in Catholic elementary schools are Oct. 26, Jan. 29 and June 4.

UGDSB elementary schools have PD days set for Oct. 26, Jan. 29 and June 4.

High schools in both boards have PD days Feb. 2 and 3 and June 29.

The last day of school for elementary students is set for June 29. High school students’ last day is set for June 21, followed by exams from June 22 to 28.

High school students are also set to write exams from Jan. 25 to Feb. 1 at the Catholic board and Jan. 26 to Feb. 1 at the Upper Grand.

The WCDSB was accepting feedback on the calendar until Jan. 12.

The UGDSB is expected to receive public consultation from Jan. 28 to Feb. 10.
