MOUNT FOREST – Wellington North Fire Services volunteer firefighters responded to a small fire on the Saugeen Trail near Martin Street around 7:13pm on June 10.

The fire was called in by a passerby and 12 firefighters and four trucks responded from the service’s Mount Forest station, deputy fire chief Callise Loos wrote in an email.

Trees burning

“Upon arrival, some trees were on fire resulting in the deployment of a water extinguisher,” Loos wrote.

The fire was out by 7:57, and the burnt trees were cut down and heavily soaked with water to prevent smoldering.

Unlike other recent fires in Mount Forest, this one is not considered suspicious.

“The cause of the fire was determined to be human error,” Loos wrote.
