Safe Kids Week encourages drivers to slow down
WELLINGTON COUNTY – Safe Communities Wellington County is asking drivers to slow down for Parachute’s Safe Kids Week, June 1 to 7.
The theme, “Safe Speeds For Kids,” targeting cars as the leading cause of injury-related death for Canadian kids under 14.
According to a Safe Communities Wellington County news release, an average of 46 children die, and 6,700 are hurt on roads each year, most between 3 and 6pm.
“June also sees the highest number of child bicyclist injuries and deaths, making Safe Kids Week an important reminder for drivers to stay alert,” states the release.
Safe Communities is also promoting Parachute’s “Snap for Change,” asking residents to photograph unsafe spots such as streets, missing sidewalks and blind intersection, for a chance at a $100 gift card.
