Ruth and Sheldon Wolfe honoured

Local Meals on Wheels resident Marion Agla welcomed 30 volunteers and guests to the Clifford community Meals on Wheels volunteer appreciation luncheon held late last month at Knox United Church here.

Rev. Heather Leffler offered grace and gratitude to volunteers before lunch prepared by Agla and her many helpers.

A certificate was presented to Ruth and Sheldon Wolfe “in gratitude for their years of devotion and dedicated service to the Clifford community through Clifford Community Meals on Wheels from its beginning in 1984 to their retirement in March 2011.”

The certificate, created by Leffler and filled with signatures of best wishes, was passed along to the Wolfes,

From its inception in 1984, the Wolfes have taken on various roles of responsibility in the  program. Both have held many positions on the board for over 25 years, showing commitment, spirit, enthusiasm, and determination to serve their community.

Agla expressed special thanks to drivers for their commitment to delivering the meals.  She said the clients really appreciate hot meals and the drivers appreciate the warm smiles that meet them at every door when they deliver.

The staff at the Redwood restaurant was also applauded for continuing to serve hot nutritious meals to fill the need three days a week.

More drivers would also be appreciated to fill the three month rotation or act as a spare. Other drivers are needed for the transportation service that offers rides for a fee for people to get to appointments, for visiting, or shopping.

The committee hosts one fundraiser a year – an annual yard and bake sale the first Saturday in June. Agla appreciated the donations and helpers who help raise enough money to keep the supplies filled and meals subsidized.

With the retirement of the Wolfes and Doris Newton, there is room on the board for more members. Helen Braun and Shirley Murray agreed to join the board and Agla extended that invitation to others in the community.
