Local Rotary Clubs are looking for students to apply for the annual 2010-11 Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship.

It is for one academic year at a study institution assigned by the Rotary Foundation trustees outside North America. The award of up to $25,000 US is to help cover tuition fees, room and board, limited language training and miscellaneous expenses. The 2010-11 scholarship will be awarded after July 1 and can applied for through the Rotary Club of Fergus-Elora.

Students must have completed at least two years of university or college  before the scholarship commences and must be a resident within the District boundaries or their parents must normally reside within the District. Rotary Club members or their descendents are ineligible.

There are no age or gender restrictions on the scholarships. Deadline to apply is April 15.  Applications are available by contacting John Wheatley at 519-846-9955 or john.wheatley@sympatico.ca.

Because the scholarship is primarily ambassadorial and one academic year, it may not be possible for the recipient to earn a degree or diploma during the study year.

During the study period, scholars are expected to be ambassadors of goodwill to the people of the host country through informal and formal appearances at Rotary clubs and other organizations. After the year is done, scholars share their experiences with the people of their home countries and  local Rotarian  sponsors.

Applicants must apply through their local Rotary Clubs. Club endorsed candidates compete at the district level.

The district committee will select one candidate only from District 7080.
