Centre Wellington Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj was re-elected to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) board of directors for the 2013-14 term, and then appointed by the board to the position of Ontario caucus chair.

The appointment came at the annual FCM conference in Vancouver.

Mayor Ross-Zuj is one of only 16 members representing the Ontario Caucus. Ross-Zuj has been an FCM committee member since 2005 and on the board of directors representing the Ontario caucus since 2010.

The board is comprised of elected municipal officials and affiliate members from across Canada and meets quarterly to discuss key municipal issues, set policy priorities and serve as a support system for municipalities bringing forward their messages to the government of Canada.

“I look forward to continuing the board’s important work with the government of Canada. I am very proud to advocate for Ontario and Wellington residents,” said Ross-Zuj.

Ross-Zuj’s political resume includes over 16 years of municipal government experience and being elected to the position of Wellington County warden for two consecutive terms from 2008 to 2010.

“On behalf of county council and staff, I’d like to congratulate Mayor Ross-Zuj on her re-election to the FCM board,” said current county Warden Chris White.

“I know as Ontario caucus chair, Joanne will continue to work hard on key issues facing Ontario’s municipalities.”

FCM is the national voice of Canada’s municipalities, speaking for almost 2,000 cities and communities representing 90 per cent of Canada’s population.

FCM’s board is comprised of elected municipal officials and affiliate members from all regions and various-sized communities across the country.
