The Palmerston Rookies broomball team brought home the silver medal from the 2016 Senior and Mixed National Championships held April 6 to 9 in Owen Sound.

The Rookies finished the tournament with a record of four wins and four loses, but picked up wins at the right time to advance to the gold medal game on April 9, where they dropped a 1-0 decision to the Ottawa Nationals.

The team lost its first game to the Quebec City Sphinx by a 2-0 margin, before edging the Kilsyth Phantoms 4-3 later the same day.

The team then beat the Bruno Axemen from Saskatchewan 2-1 and was blanked by the Manitoba Bisons 2-0, finishing the day with a 2-0 loss in their first encounter with Ottawa.

The Rookies downed the Les As Saint-Coeur de Marie team from Quebec City 2-1, setting up an A-side semi-final game between the two teams, which the Rookies won by a 5-0 margin, before losing to Ottawa in the final.
