Two new cell towers could be popping up along the Highway 7 corridor of Guelph-Eramosa.

Sean Galbraith, municipal affairs manager with LandSquared, a telecommunications consulting firm, brought the issue to the attention of council at its June 2 meeting.

The planned 50-metre towers would be located on CN rail land north of Highway 7, west of Wellington Road 29 and west of the 4th Line, north of Alma Street.

The towers are being proposed by Rogers Communications Inc.

Galbraith said the proposed towers would also require public hearings before they can be erected. No time for public meetings was released at Monday’s meeting.

Communication towers fall under the jurisdiction of the federal government and do not require municipal approvals.

“At the end of the day it’s federal jurisdiction,” said Mayor Chris White said, referring to any inquiries coming from the public.
