Roger Miller’s button collection at county museum on Oct. 19

ABOYNE – On the Button is coming to the Wellington County Museum and Archives on Oct. 19.

The exhibit features over 900 buttons from local collector Roger Miller, displayed alongside rare garments from the museum’s collection.

“You will never look at buttons the same way again,” says curator Amy Dunlop.

“As the latest exhibit highlighted in the Wellington County Collects series, Roger Miller’s display looks at buttons as everyday pleasures and tiny works of art that provide a glimpse into history.”

Miller said button collecting is “personal and varied” and “no two collections are identical.”

He added, “Buttons are important to me because they are not simply functional items. I like to get a sense of the history of the buttons in my collection from how they were used on garments, the art of button making, and where and why they were made.”

The exhibit’s opening reception on Oct. 19 from 1 to 3pm at the museum. Miller will give a personal tour of the exhibit at 2pm. All are welcome, admission by donation.

Miller’s buttons will be on display until April 12.

Galleries are open weekdays from 9:30am to 4:30pm and 1 to 5pm on weekends.
