GUELPH – A culvert replacement project is slated to cause a three-month road closure in Mapleton.
During a roads committee meeting on May 13, staff presented a tender award for a culvert replacement on Wellington Road 10 between Wellington Road 7 and James Street in Rothsay.
The work includes the complete replacement of the existing structure with a new reinforced concrete culvert, with the associated roadway reconstruction including granular, asphalt pavement, steel beam guide rail and other miscellaneous work.
According to county manager of roads Joe De Koning, upon council’s approval, the road will be closed for approximately three to four months, with work beginning in late June.
On May 2, five submissions were received from pre-qualified bridge and culvert contractors, ranging from $977,038 to $1.39 million.
Staff recommended awarding the contract to the lowest bidder: Clinton-based VanDriel Excavating Inc., for $977,038 excluding 13 per cent HST.
The highest bid of $1.39 million was from Milton-based HugoMB Contracting Inc.
The project’s gross cost totals $1.13 million with the roads capital reserve accounting for $592,000 and the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund for $538,000.
Other project costs include the tender, professional fees, construction materials to date and a contingency of $99,900.
The roads committee reviewed the tender amount and recommended council’s approval.
