Riverfest Elora cancelled again due to COVID-19 pandemic

ELORA – Riverfest Elora has been cancelled for the second year in a row.

“As the year has rolled on and we have gotten closer and closer to the summer, we have come to the heartbreaking conclusion that we will have to postpone the 12th instalment of Riverfest Elora once again,” states a May 17 festival announcement posted on social media.

Festival organizers add, “The health and well-being of our fans, artists, staff, partners and the community continues to be our highest priority and unfortunately, it is not looking like large-scale events such as ours will be possible in 2021.” The 12th festival, originally scheduled for 2020 and then rescheduled to Aug. 20 to 22, 2021, is now being planned for next August.

“Nobody has a crystal ball,” added artistic director and festival manager Spencer Shewen in a phone interview, saying that plans for 2021 Riverfest we’re always optimistic in light of the pandemic.

Organizers say they are already “working with artists, agents and management” on the 2022 event, which will feature “our biggest lineup to date.”

Shewen said that the 2022 Riverfest looks to be the strongest yet.

“We’re really looking forward to coming back in 2022.”

According to Shewen there is more than just next year’s Riverfest in the works, as possible smaller events throughout the year leading up to the festival have been discussed.

“Keep an eye out for it,” said Shewen.

The festival will honour tickets already purchased for 2020 or 2021 festivals in 2022.

“We hope that this will allow you the flexibility to hang on to your tickets, locked in at the 2020 price and help us out along the way,” officials stated.
