On March 25, Centre Wellington councillors approved a revised letter of understanding regarding its agreement with staff for overtime/on-call hours.

Council’s endorsement came quickly following a review of a report by township human resources manager Richard Hulley.

Changes included wording on overtime and on-call hours affecting both public works and the former parks and recreation departments which were initially negotiated almost a decade ago. Hulley’s report stated that over the past few years, it has become apparent it did not sufficiently address issues of process with consistency and fairness for all employees in all departments. As a result, more appropriate language was drafted to ensure the process is more specific and detailed. Hulley later explained that in the last agreement negotiated, there was language which was loose and not being applied equally.

He said an example of that was some individuals were being asked to work more hours than others.
