WELLINGTON COUNTY – The reopening of the Elora waste facility has been delayed to mid-January due to project design alterations.
The news was shared by county manager of solid waste services (SWS) Das Soligo at a SWS committee meeting on Nov. 17.
The $2.89-million site improvements began in April with the main features including:
- an expanded drop-off area for improved unloading and site traffic management;
- scale house construction with installation of dual scales;
- replacement of the retaining wall and Household Hazardous Waste building; and
- paving and concrete works.
“Construction was originally planned to be completed by the end of November, with a planned re-opening of the Elora waste facility in early December,” the report states.
“However, as construction progressed several design elements needed to be addressed to aid in site operations and patron experience.”
Site improvements are now expected to be complete by the end of December.
“In consideration of inclement weather potential, construction may carry over into early January,” the report states.
Staff are planning to re-open the site in mid-January.
Alternate sites for Elora residents include the Belwood waste facility (primary destination) and the Rothsay site.
The Belwood location continues to operate five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday from 8am to 4pm, during the extended Elora closure.
