Wellington County
Held in partnership with the county’s Legion branches, a Nov. 9 service, from 10:30am to 12:30pm, will honour those lost in both World Wars, the Korean War, Afghanistan and in service with NATO.
Local Legion members will recite more than 500 names of the county’s fallen on the county’s Museum and Archives front lawn in Aboyne.
The museum and archives will be closed on Remembrance Day, Nov. 11.
On Nov. 10, from 5:30 to 6pm, the public can place a candle on each of the 600 named markers staked along the front lawn, representing the county’s war dead.
Wellington Place administrator Jana Burns said the county ordered new hand-fabricated metal poppy markers this year.
The previous wooden stakes were 12 years old and had a “cemetery feel” to them, Burns said.
The new poppies, she said, “will look absolutely striking from the road.”
