The Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life is defined as a celebration of survival - and that is exactly what the Wellington Heights Relay For Life was about on June 7.

As pledges came in, organizers raised well over their goal of $30,000 as $33,600 was brought in for the fight against cancer.

Grade 12 student Duncan Henderson, the Relay for Life committee chairman, said, “It was an amazing night for our school and our community as it was so impressive how hard everyone worked to achieve their goal.”

He added, “There was a record breaking amount of haircutting taking place with over 30 participants who got part of their hair cut off. It was an amazing night that was fortunate to have good weather and was comfortable for everyone there. Some people slept but it was evident that there were people walking the track the whole night, committing themselves to make a difference.”

He added, “This event raises money but it is more than that. The Relay For Life is a symbol that the youth of this community can make a difference. We are the future and together we can make change.”
