GUELPH –  Registration is now open for the Upper Grand District School Board’s (UGDSB) ‘International and Indigenous Languages Program.’

Languages offered:

  • Bengali
  • Dari
  • Greek
  • Hindi
  • Marathi
  • Punjabi
  • Spanish
  • Tigrinya
  • Arabic

UGDSB spokesperson Heather Loney told the Advertiser that while the program doesn’t include any Indigenous languages at this time, “we are hoping to add to the list of languages offered.

“The program is continuous, meaning we can add programs to it throughout the year,” Loney said.

“Additional languages may be added based on sufficient enrollment and the availability of instructors.”

The program is free and open to all students in Grades 1 to 8 who can attend class in Guelph.

“The program offers language learning with engaging activities covering a wide range of cultural themes,” officials state.

No language background is necessary.

Participants must sign up on the Google Form linked below and receive confirmation to attend classes. Classes will only run if the minimum enrollment requirements are met.

The program runs from Nov. 9 to June 14 on Saturdays from 9:30am to 12pm at Tytler Public School (131 Ontario St, Guelph).
