Rare municipal tourney will run this weekend

The 2012 Ontario Municipal Hockey Tournament runs this weekend at the Sports complex.

It is the only hockey tournament of its kind in the province that the organizers are aware of, according to a superintendant of water and sewer services Barry Trood.

This year the event has a dozen teams entered – with a waiting list.

Last year, the organizers donated over $1,500 from the tournament proceeds to the breakfast program at all five schools in Wellington North Township.

The tournament starts on Friday night at 6pm as the host combined team of Wellington North and Minto takes on Shelburne.

At 7pm, Wilmot Township faces last year’s runner-up, Wellington County.

The action resumes on Saturday at 8am with Centre Wellington combined with Wellington South taking on a team from Wasaga Beach and Oxford County.

Other games will follow, with contestants from Collington and Ingersol as well as Blue Mounts and Norfolk County.

Last year’s champion was Ingersoll.
