MOUNT FOREST – The 24th CKNX Health Care Heroes Radiothon will broadcast on Oct. 18 in support of nine midwestern Ontario hospital foundations, including Mount Forest’s Louise Marshall Hospital Foundation (LMHF) and the Palmerston and District Hospital Foundation (PDHF).
From 9am to 4pm, CKNX will dedicate the AM920 airwaves to health care, sharing interviews with each foundation about its fundraising goals, airing patient “Stories from the Heart” and encouraging listeners to phone in donations.
Since the first Radiothon in 2002, $15,111,689 has been raised, including more than $2.6 million for LMH.
This year, the PDHF hopes to raise $100,000 for the hospital’s information technology (IT) department.
The LMHV has set a Radiothon fundraising target of $150,000 towards a new nurse call system.
Nurse call systems use technology to connect patients and caregivers. Call systems are in place in all patient areas so that they can easily signal their need for assistance.
The current nurse call system in place at LMH is outdated and is in need of replacement in order to continue to meet patient needs, officials say.
In addition to the on-air events, there will be opportunities for the community to get involved in person.
The LMHF’s Community Breakfast by Donation will continue for a second year in support of Radiothon at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex from 8 to 11am on Oct. 18.
A full breakfast of pancakes, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns, eggs, coffee, and orange juice will be served.
Foundation representatives will also be on hand to accept any in-person Radiothon donations.
Local photographer, Jess Hammett Photography, is offering up fall mini-sessions and directing half of the proceeds from this fundraiser in support of the LMHF 2025 Radiothon campaign. More information regarding these mini-sessions can be found at louisemarshallfoundation.ca.
