Quilts on the Grand show is June 5-6

The Grand Quilt Guild invites residents of Wellington and Waterloo Counties and fellow quilters from everywhere to this year’s quilt show at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex on June 5 from 10am to 7pm and June 6 from 10am to 4pm.

The Sportsplex is located in Fergus at 550 Belsyde Avenue East.

The group’s first show  in 2012 was a huge success and well attended with approximately 800 visitors.  Plans for Quilts on the Grand 2015 are exciting. Admission is $7.

There are over 150 quilted entries for display and over 50 quilted items for the Guild Challenge in which members were encouraged to step out of their comfort zone and try new techniques and creativity.

They were asked to make an item, any kind, with a maximum perimeter of 140 inches and with some evidence of quilting that represents a song title or lyrics.

The colourful quilt created by Millie Cumming of Fergus was used on the group’s advertising bookmarks and posters.

In addition to members’ quilts on display, there will be five vendors with quilting items for sale, a memory display for two members who passed away since 2012, examples of the community outreach projects and samples of comforts quilts given to any Guild member whose spouse or child passes away.

Volunteers from St. James Anglican Church in Fergus will be providing lunch, light snacks and beverages.  This is a fundraiser for the church.

The membership of the Grand Quilt Guild recognized support from the following sponsors: The Township of Centre Wellington, the Kinsmen Club of Fergus and District, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fergus Legion, the Elora Lions Club and several local businesses.  Their generous funds and support are greatly appreciated.
